Heroscribe Comics! is a new/old venture for me. I initially developed the idea back in 2006 when I published the original Queerbait anthology. Queerbait received rave reviews and sales were decent, but problems with the publisher made me decide to abandon print comic books for a while. Carabosse Comics took over the publication of Queerbait and I moved on to my first webcomic.

Queeroes started off strong with a good fan base and I managed to keep things rolling for about a year before my rotating artists policy turn into a lack of artists and the site went stagnate. That, coupled with a billing error with the hosting service, caused me to lose the domain name to a porn company.

So, what to do next?

I took a break from comics for a while. I launched Flashes In The Dark, a horror flash fiction website that’s built up a great following. I became friends with some great writers and continued to do short comic book stories here and there like the upcoming Pride High: Elective Credit by myself and Raul Faria that will be in this year’s PRISM COMICS: YOUR LGBT GUIDE TO COMICS.

But, working on the The Exceptionals with Michael Troy really made me realize how much I truly missed writing comic books. So, once again, I found a much more capable successor to turn Flashes In The Dark over to and I’m on to my next venture.

Actually, it’s more like going back to basics.

Heroscribe Comics! will be offering a full line of LGBT comic book anthologies from a variety of different comic book creators with different themes over the course of the next year. The first book will be GAY TERROR, which I’m hoping to have ready by spring 2010.

People have asked me, why do you want to specialize in gay comic books? It’s such a niche market. Wouldn’t you do better if you published more mainstream stuff? Probably, but the answer is that I think there’s a world of untold gay comic book stories out there and I want to drag them out of people. My previous forays into gay comic books have introduced me to a wonderful world of creators who are as fabulous as they stories they write.

Heroscribe Comics! will offer their unique stories, their style, and a publishing company they can call home. I want to encourage LGBT and LGBT-friendly creators, even those with their own imprints, to be a part of the Heroscribe Comics! family.

Because, it’s all about family.
